The Pin Ladder Lock offers an absurdly durable alternative to plastic buckles that can be installed without any sewing. This CNC machined aluminum buckle is lighter than many plastic buckles while delivering much higher strength. Unlike plastic, it doesn't get brittle in the cold, and we think it's easier on the eyes as well.

This buckle makes a great bag upgrade or bag repair as you can retrofit it to an existing bag without doing any sewing! If you order the buckle with the pins uninstalled, using a bench-vise or the Knipex Plier Wrench (one of our favorite tools) you can press the pins into place through webbing loops on an existing bag. See the video below for installation instructions.

These buckles are sold individually.

Buckle Specs:

  • Designed for 1" webbing
  • 1.26" Wide x 1.08" Long
  • 10.2 / 11.9 grams
  • Machined from billet aluminum, with Ti or SS pins

USPS shipping issues

I can't really blame Austere, but it is partially their fault.

I still haven't received my order.

Ordered on Sat 02.01.25, and the shipping label was listed as being created that day.
It wasn't shown as being picked up until Wednesday 02.05.25. I was given the option of Economy or Standard shipping. I picked standard at the higher price, hoping it wasn't going to be USPS. Turns out it was.
USPS seems to have a black hole at the Indianapolis facility lately. My order has been stuck there and put in limbo for the last week. Tracking isn't updating.
This is a USPS issue. I literally received an order last week that went through Indy that I placed right after Christmas. The package movement isn't Austere's fault. That's a known issue right now with USPS.
I wish Austere's website listed what the shipping options are. Economy and Standard aren't options. I'm not real sure there is anything cheaper than USPS, or more prone to having issues. I chose the more expensive hoping it would at least be UPS. Feels like Austere just pocketed the increased rate charge and dropped in a padded envelope to get lost in the USPS.
So...I'll wait and hopefully it shows. The half dozen things that have all been lost in Indy in the past couple months have all shown.
Just WEEKS later than normal.

high quality item - buckle amazing - strap too short - pricey

The buckle is very very lightweight, looks and feels very solid. Strap isn´t moving at all - amazing quality! Nevertheless, the price for such a product is too expensive in my opinion. Also, the strap could easily be at least twice as long, preferebly at about 2,5 metres long! It´s easier to shorten it, impossible to make it longer ;-)

Stylish and functional

These are a definite upgrade for my backpack and add a nice pop of color as well. The pins were tricky to push into place even with a vice. I found that the pins were stiff enough to put a hole in the piece of wood I was using to try to protect the ladder lock from getting scratched. Once I figured out the correct set up, it wasn't too bad, but I am not sure if I could have pushed the pins in using pliers or channel locks. Overall, very happy with my purchase!

Buckles that moves me

They are such a lovely little devices, like a collectible. Simple yet aesthetically functional, who would have thought of it.
