The Pin Ladder Lock offers an absurdly durable alternative to plastic buckles that can be installed without any sewing. This CNC machined aluminum buckle is lighter than many plastic buckles while delivering much higher strength. Unlike plastic, it doesn't get brittle in the cold, and we think it's easier on the eyes as well.
This buckle makes a great bag upgrade or bag repair as you can retrofit it to an existing bag without doing any sewing! If you order the buckle with the pins uninstalled, using a bench-vise or the Knipex Plier Wrench (one of our favorite tools) you can press the pins into place through webbing loops on an existing bag. Classy looking, obviously durable, wanted these to be the upgrade to my bag I expected. And hopefully the rest of my gear after. In practice- they just aren’t quite in tolerance, and the pins need to be forced into the aluminum. For nearly 20$ a buckle these should be perfect.
Someone from Austere reached out to me the same day offering to replace my marred buckles, and apparently the knipilex pliers they recommended are the absolute best tool for this job. If I do another set uninstalled I’ll be sure to set aside the extra cost for that tool. A clamp won’t cut it (and the tape will shred).

I purchased two of the 1-inch Pin Ladder Locks to repair a vintage Swiss Army backpack whose plastic strap buckles were damaged by airline handlers. This put a favorite backpack back to better-than-new condition. Just took a couple of minutes to install the new Austere buckles, and no sewing. Very high quality product and I am a happy customer.
